Kratek življenjepis
Asist. dr.

After completing her studies in microbiology, assist. Dr. Larisa Janžič continued her studies at the Biotechnical Faculty and obtained her Master’s degree in Molecular and Functional Biology in 2019. In 2020, she received the Prize of the Biotechnical Faculty for the best student of the Master’s program and was also awarded the Krka Prize for undergraduate and postgraduate research theses.
Immediately after graduating, she joined the Laboratory of Cellular Immunology at the Institute of Microbiology and Immunology of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, as a young researcher. Her doctoral thesis focused on the innate immune response, especially macrophages, to bacterial infections. She received her PhD in 2024 with the successful defense of her doctoral dissertation entitled “In vitro model of innate immune response to different strains of group B streptococcus”’. During her doctoral studies, she habilitated as an assistant teacher of microbiology and immunology at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana and is active in teaching. In addition to her PhD work, she has been involved in other research activities in the Laboratory of Cellular Immunology from the very beginning and has authored or co-authored various scientific papers. As an active researcher, she regularly attends and presents her work at national and international scientific congresses and conferences. She has received several travel grants for her participation, in particular as a member of the Immunology Society of Slovenia. She has also successfully passed the professional examination for healthcare laboratory technicians and has been employed as an independent assistant in the Laboratory of Cellular Immunology since 2024. In spring 2025, as a PhD graduate, she will also complete an extended internship at BioMed X Research Institute in Heidelberg, where she will continue to focus on research into the mechanisms of innate immunity.
