Infrastrukturni center za raziskave patogenih mikroorganizmov 3. stopnje biološke varnosti (IC BSL-3+)

Kratek opis projekta

IC BSL-3+ predstavlja prvi tovrstni center v Sloveniji. Prostori in oprema v laboratoriju so računalniško nadzorovani.

____________

IC BSL-3+ infrastructure programme represents an integrative, high-tech solution for research and development activities of high risk pathogens classified as biosafety levels 3 and 4 agents. The proposed infrastructure programme is the first of its kind in Slovenia. The IC BSL-3+ team is comprised of highly educated and skilled professionals with long term expertise in the field of highly pathogenic biological agents under the supervision and leadership of Miša Korva, PhD, head of the Laboratory for diagnostics of zoonoses and WHO laboratory and Laboratory for diagnostics of Covid-19 at the Institute of Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine. The infrastructure centre enables a multidisciplinary research of microbial pathogenesis, antimicrobial resistance, host-pathogen interactions, development of novel diagnostic methods, epidemiology as well as development and testing of novel therapeutic and preventive measures. The laboratory is equipped with a sustained negative pressure system, which provides a controlled air flow through a system of HEPA filters. Premises and equipment in the laboratory are all computer controlled and restricted. Inside, the laboratory consists of two units: first is equipped for the isolation of pathogenic microorganisms in the cell lines or cultivation on artificial culture media using Class II and III Biological Safety cabinet. The second unit is intended for immune-pathogenesis studies and interactions between a host and pathogenic organisms. The IC BSL-3+ supports collaborative research among different research organizations both in the public sector as well as in the industry. The IC BSL-3+ enables a nation-wide and international dissemination of knowledge and exchange of ideas from different areas of life sciences. The collaborative nature of the centre as well as its scientific excellence and integrity supports popularization of science and greatly increases the recognition of Slovenian scientists in international collaborative research.

The IC BSL3+ is partially funded also by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency.
